RESPONSE TO COVID-19
New Concept Self Development Center, Inc. has taken critical steps to comply with Federal, State and Local mandates related to the COVID-19 virus and Safer At Home. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact New Concept Self Development Center, Inc. at (414) 344-5788 and leave a message, or Shalon D. Atkins, Executive Coordinator at shalonatkins@ncsdc-inc.org.
- All in-person programming has been suspended until further notice.
- Maintain compliance with partner organizations and their response. This includes suspending programming within their organizations (i.e. schools, community-based organizations, etc.).
- Remote access is provided for work functions and programming which are not required to be performed in-person. Staff can implement teleconference and/or web-based opportunities if possible, with participants.
- New Concept is housed in the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center which is a Milwaukee County facility. It is required all nonessential activities to be suspended until further notice. Essential employees (management/supervision) can access the facility for necessary on-site work functions for short periods of time. Agency staff members have access to the facility at staggered times, for short periods.
- New Concept will remain up to date on all local and federal requirements in efforts to protect the health and wellbeing of our community.
- New Concept requires staff, participants, and community members to wear face masks at all times. Should a participant or community member not have a face mask, one will be provided.
- All staff, participants and visitors entering the building will be screened for COVID_19 symptoms and possible exposure. This process will include a temperature check.
- Hand sanitizer is provided in the offices and community areas throughout the facilities.
- Cleaning supplies are provided for staff use as it is necessary to maintain a healthy and virus free environment. Upon conclusion of interaction with participants and community members, the area and seating are wiped down prior to serving others. Additional items to be cleaned may include writing instruments, should they be required for use.

Focused Mission
“To preserve families and protect children while promoting self-sufficiency”.
New Concept Self Development Center, Inc. (“New Concept”) has been providing youth and family social services to under-served low-income African American families since 1975. The majority of these families live in the neighborhoods near the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center (“MLK Center”) on 15th and Vliet Street in Milwaukee, WI. Median income of this highly vulnerable population ranges from less than $25,000 to $35,000.
September 16, 2017 Strategic Plan - New Concept Board of Directors and staff consistently commented on the high quality and relevance of New Concept's services. The Plan participants also expressed concern that many of the individuals/families served by New Concept would fall through the cracks and remain under-served without New Concept’s intervention.
