ANGER MANAGEMENT

SERVICE: To provide youth struggling with anger management an opportunity to gain insight into their difficulties while learning skills to appropriately deal with anger. The program encourages youth who participate to accept responsibility for what they’ve done and avoid harmful behaviors in the future.Through parent education, peer education, individual counseling and family life education.

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES PROVIDED:

The Anger Management session is designed to affect change through cognitive reconstruction. Curriculum activities are designed to interrupt cognitive processes that contribute to impulsive reactions to anger. The program experience promotes insight and understanding of the sources of anger. Moreover, the curriculum provides basic skills to prevent person-directed aggresion. Through carefully sequenced lesson plans, participants develop effective listening and communication skills, learn how to recognize and manage anger, and identify triggers that cause angry responses to situations.

Session objectives are to:

  1. Reduce the Potential for Violent Behaviors
  2. Empower youth to develop acceptable ways of expressing anger
  3. Decrease Stress; and
  4. Develop Empathy.

COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

SERVICE: Youth enrolled in the First Time Juvenile Offenders Program and Milwaukee Public School Expulsion program volunteer their time by contributing community service work. New Concept provides supervised work opportunities in which youngsters can serve their hours with community agencies and be matched with agencies of their choice.

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES PROVIDED: Community Service volunteer at New Concept is designed to provide opportunities for delinquent youth to gain positive experiences through contribution of time and energy to our community and to assist the youth in developing assets and skills that they need to make better choices.  The program consists of youth completing Court ordered community service hours, attending community service classes, and attending classes designd for parent/legal guardian.

The Mentoring Connection

SERVICE: Mentoring provided by caring adult mentors

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES PROVIDED: The Mentoring Connection, Children of Incarcerated Parents Program provides mentoring to youth who have a a parent in prison.  Mentors serve as positive role models for youth ages 4-15.  Mentors coordinate and engage in education, cultural, and social activities with youth.

The Enrichment Institute is a subdivision of New Concept Self Development Center, Inc designed to provide an array of optional social services that schools can request when needed. Because schools serve an immense diverse population of youth with a plethora of academic, personal, and social problems, school support staff is often unable to respond to all the needs that affects this vast population. As a cooperative enterprise that utilizes seasoned professionals, "The Enrichment Institute" offers a package of support services specifically designed to meet the needs of students and families. This unique model of support services enables schools to efficiently utilize the skills of our culturally competent staff for a modest fee.

FIRST TIME JUVENILE OFFENDERS PROGRAM (FTJOP)

SERVICE: Support youth and their families through intevention programs provided by a network of provider services and volunteer opportunities.

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES PROVIDED:
Program offers services designed to reduce the rate of recividism among youth.

LIFE SKILLS GROUP EDUCATION

SERVICE: Focuses on prevention of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco use.

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES PROVIDED:
Life Skills Group Education is designed to increase the knowledge base of students relative to prevention of drug, alcohol, and tobacco use. Life Skills sessions aim to prevent or alleviate difficulties such as alcohol, drugs and tobacco use.  Life Skills training is an avenue for personal growth and a means by which youth may improve the quality of one's life. The classes steer individuals towards a healthy lifestyle by enhancing self-esteem, strengthening interpersonal skills, and increasing ones ability to manage stress in a healthy, rewarding manner.

MENTORING, TUTORING AND COUNSELING
SERVICE: Offers assistance to youth with evidence of behavior problems affecting the educational outcomes in reading and math.

DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES PROVIDED: Assistance to students both academically and socially, by involving them in community organizations supporting activities. The program reaches out to the community in developing partnerships.
MILWAUKEE PUBLIC SCHOOL (MPS) EXPULSION
SERVICE: Provide services for students who have been expelled from school.
ESTABLISHED: 2006
FUNDING SOURCE: Milwaukee Public School
DESCRIPTION OF SERVICES: The program’s primary goal is for students to successfully return to a Milwaukee Public School, with a better understanding of acceptable school behavior and an uderstanding of consequences effecting school performance. Students will receive counseling regarding drug use and abuse.  The program is also designed to strengthen a student’s skills in communication, social interaction and studying.
